ASEAN Summit is expected Discuss Migrant Workers

Head of National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers (BNP2TKI) Moh Jumhur Hidayat expect the 18th ASEAN Summit held in Jakarta on 7-8 May to agenda the issue of protection of migrant workers in ASEAN and ASEAN migrant workers in state-other regional countries.

"Summit is expected to also discuss the importance of ASEAN to open up to absorb more workers in the formal sector and skill enabled semiskill. This view needs pemerimaan fellow ASEAN countries to migrant workers is high, in addition to the availability of formal workers to be placed in various ASEAN countries are also large," Jumhur said in Jakarta on Friday (06/05/2011).

According Jumhur, ASEAN meetings this time also explores the dialogue with the European Union countries to assess the program or a comprehensive cooperation agreement. "Therefore, the question of protection and placement of migrant workers to be relevant in order to result in a meeting," said Jumhur.
